Our Mission
The SUNY Maritime Parents
Association exists for the Cadets.
Since 1952 the Parents
Association has been a part of the college scene at Maritime.
While we are visible doing
fund raising at all of the major campus events, the first time
prospective Cadet Parents meet us is usually at the "Future Cadet
Days" where we present the parents eye view of SUNY Maritime. We are
available to answer questions in person and now on the WEB.
Our organization raises
money to support student activities and to provide amenities not
provided by the college. Recent acquisitions include an ambulance,
computers for the library, video tapes for Summer Sea Term etc.
etc.. In prior years, eighteen student organizations sought funds;
unfortunately we were only able to provide funds for about half that
number and no organization received what they requested. Each year
we strive to provide what we can. We generally fund those
organizations which benefit the most students and the college at
large, e.g. Emergency Medical Service, band, etc.. There never seems
to be enough.
Support comes in many ways. Our executive board is involved with the
administration. We help new MUG parents become acclimated; so you
will better understand the Regiment, the INDOC process, what it
means to have a Cadet at SUNY Maritime and what can you expect at
the end of the tunnel. You will have a chance to meet with parents
of Cadets at the school and parents of graduates
Our board meeting dates are published in our calendar. Our calendar contains the school's academic calendar, photos of the campus and from Summer Sea Term on the T/S Empire State VI, and many of the important on-campus phone numbers. Copies for home and campus use can be purchased for $5.00 on campus or $5.00 plus shipping COD via e-mail
